Louis Boillot Vieilles Vignes Moulin a Vent is made from the grapes of vines that are 50-60 year old vines. The fruit is an blend of four parcels from sites close together. On the nose it has impressive weight and structure more in the style of a red Burgundy. The palate is dense, pure and palate coating with nuances of raspberries and red cherries. It has great volume and tannic structure, as is often the case with Moulin-a-Vent.

"There is a lovely perfumed quality to the very fresh red currant and newly turned earth scents where a trace of the sauvage creeps in. I very much like the texture of the medium-bodied and lightly stony flavors that possess very good mid-palate density where a mild hint of rusticity creeps in on the compact, linear and impressively persistent finish. This is definitely Pommard in character but a relatively refined one.". 90-93, Outstanding. Burghound Issue #73

"Now that grandpère is 95 years old it is Louis who does this vineyard work here. Rich mid purple. The nose is clearly riper than Champonnets. It is really beautiful though, the age of the vines (planted 1912) has held it all together and there is an excellent natural acidity behind the complex sweet cherry fruit. Very long perfumed finish, adorable. Long silky finish." (93-95) Jasper Morris

Burghound 'Louis Boillot's views are consistent with those of his wife Ghislaine Barthod.... I would add only that Boillot noted that he began the harvest on the 2nd of September in Volnay. As the scores and commentaries confirm, Boillot did fabulously well in 2015, indeed I would go so far as to say that they are among the best wines that I have ever seen from him. Moreover Beaujolais lovers should not ignore those wines either as all three are … more

'A surprisingly high-toned nose freely displays notes of cranberry, red raspberry, earth and a hint of anise character. There is excellent volume and richness to the bigger and more powerful flavors that are less refined but equally persistent on the youthfully austere and dusty but not rustic finale. This very firm effort is also clearly constituted for the long haul.' 91-93pts Burghound.

"A restrained and intensely floral-suffused nose is reticent to the point of being brooding and only
grudgingly provides glimpses of fresh dark berries and spice whiffs. The precise, highly energetic and
super-fine middleweight flavors also exude evident minerality on the moderately austere and equally long finale. I almost always prefer the d'Angerville Taillepieds to their Champans but that could well change in 2022 as this is outstanding." Lamarche's 1.35 hectares of vineyards in the Clos de Vougeot are situated over three terroirs: one is at the top of the Clos near the Château (actually there are two small parcels in the area known as Montiotes Hautes); another is in the middle tranche on the Vosne side (Petits Maupertuis); and the remaining parcel is lower down near the RN74 (Baudes Basses). All three parcels are picked at the same time and co-fermented in open-top wooden vats.

Chardonnay grown at the top of the vineyard on white marl which is perfectly suited to the variety. The vineyard faces east looking across the valley towards En Charlemagne but does not lose the sun early in the evening thanks to the steep wooded hillside above.

A Grand Cru in all but name, located mid-slope, oriented toward the east with a luminosity from the first rays of morning until the dwindling rays of sunset. Small clay deposits. Always rich in limestone accompanied by an elevated level of iron, explaining the reddish tint. The coarse sandy deposits one finds here are key in lightening the soil and optimising the circulation of water. In short, a beautiful soil to work with and emblematic of a grand soil. Located in the quiet village of Couchey in the Cote de Nuits. This fourth-generation Domaine is run by father and son Philippe & Johann Robert. Traditional Burgundy, long-lived, full of colour and concentration. Whilst not owning any 1er or Grand cru vines, it does have a fine range of holdings in Marsannay & Fixin. As a side note, the Robert family is closely related to the famous Rousseau family which is based in a village over in Gevrey-Chambertin. However, this … more
