"The 2019 Barolo Ravera is the most intensely mineral and saline of the Barolos. Crushed rocks, white pepper, flowers, orange zest, red berry fruit and bright acids all run through this finely sculpted, chiseled Barolo. Readers who enjoy Barolos of energy and tension will adore the Ravera. I have always had a soft spot for this Barolo. The 2019 is another magnificent dimension of Vietti's dark horse, a wine that over the last 10-12 years has routinely challenged for the … more

"The 2016 Barolo Lazzarito is another stunning wine in this range. The 2016 is the first vintage of the Lazzarito I can remember tasting in which intensely mineral notes accompany the more savory, earthy notes that are so typical of this site. Graphite, sage, dried flowers, crushed rocks, menthol, dried rose petal, mint, licorice and blood orange race out of the glass in a breathtaking, towering Barolo that hits all the right notes from the start to its chiseled, strikingly … more

"The 2018 Barolo Castiglione is bright, fresh and delineated. Crushed red berry fruit, white pepper, chalk, mint and rose petal all run through this gorgeous, sculpted Barolo. The purity of the fruit and overall energy here are captivating. I would cellar the 2018 for at least a few years. It's a gorgeous wine in the making. Drink 2024-2036." - Antoni Galloni

This Barbera is from a single vineyard (Scarrone) planted in 1988 in Castiglione.
"Lots of black berries and black licorice on the nose with a medium body, veryfine tannins and afresh and vivid finish. Fine texture. From organically grown grapes. Vegan. Drink now." - James Suckling

A blend of two parcels of Arneis in the valley Luca calls home. The first comes from younger vines planted over soft sand and was picked early and given a direct press straight to stainless steel vats. The latter is planted over more compact soils, picked a little later and spends ten days in contact with the skins before being pressed off to old oak. They spend around nine months in these vessels before blending. It is a wine of … more

This is an exceptionally elegant Barolo with great depth. It shows strawberry and raspberry, as well as lifted floral notes on the nose. It has balanced acidity and freshness, delivering cherry, spice and delicious savoury undertones, with fine, well-structured tannins. The fruit comes from the south-west-facing portion of the Montanello Cru. Fermentation and maceration take 25 days and then it is aged in
only 2500 litre Slavonian oak botti for 24 months before being aged further in bottle.

"The 2016 Barolo La Villa is a beguiling wine that needs a bit of time in bottle to fully open up. Then again, it is a young Barolo, so that is very much to be expected. Dried herbs, mint, licorice, dark cherry, underbrush and a whole range of spiced/balsamic notes fill out the layers. Next to the straight Barolo, La Villa has more body, depth and texture. It is another fine effort from Seghesio." - Antonio Galloni

A blend of several small parcels of vines from a number of communes, Le Vigne is Luciano Sandrone's ode to "traditional" or blended Barolo. All of the sites that go into Le Vigne are markedly different in terms of altitude, soil and exposure, and together they help provide a broad overview of Barolo in a given year. As with the previous release, this wine now includes fruit from four communes: Barolo (Vignane), Serralunga (Baudana), Novello (Merli) and a new source … more

"The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Pora is a pretty tightly wound wine, certainly moreso than is typically the case for this Barbaresco, which is often much more engaging in the early going. Dried herbs, tobacco, cedar and earthiness lend notable savory nuance in this decidedly nervy, somber Pora. There's good fruit intensity and plenty of character.." Antonio Galloni 92pts

"The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is powerful, savory and intensely linear, in classico Ovello style, and yet it appears to have enough fruit behind its imposing tannins to develop well over the coming years. In this tasting, the Ovello feels pretty closed post bottling, but its inherent balance and qualities are there. Clean saline notes extend the finish in promising fashion." - Antonio Galloni 94pts

'The 2020 Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano is one of the most elegant, polished wines in this range. Bright red-toned fruit, blood orange, spice, mint and cedar are beautifully lifted. The tannins are remarkably polished for a young, recently bottled Riserva. I admire its poise and elegance. This is an especially refined edition of the Montestefano. In 2020, the mix of vineyards is a bit younger than in the past, as one of the blocks of older vineyards was replanted and not … more
