Tense, edgy and savoury on release, it’s blossomed with a further six months in bottle into a merry celebration of the freshness of Cuis, the quintessential apéritif and one of the most pristine champagnes for its price. Freshness and purity of lemon and crunchy nashi pear are well toned by the texture and complexity of bottle maturity, lending bready, biscuity nuances and drawing out notes of white pepper and anise. The fine salt chalk minerality of the village is energised … more

"The champagnes of Pierre Gimonnet & Fils are intricately assembled by masterful hands exclusively from enviably positioned and painstakingly tended old vines. Every cuvée sings its aspiration of 'precision, purity and minerality', each speaking articulately of its place in the northern Côte des Blancs through expressive, chalky minerality, without one molecule of detail out of place. With high-strung tension, crystalline structure and rapier-sharp precision, these are blanc de blancs champagnes … more

A precise, crystalline wine, the NV Brut Cuvée de Réserve is the perfect wine with which to explore the Péters Champagnes. Lemon peel white, flowers and slate are super-expressive throughout in a Champagne that impresses with its finely-sculpted personality and energy. The Cuvée de Réserve is quite powerful, but never heavy. Slightly tropical overtones add the final shades of nuance. The Cuvée de Réserve draws on fruit sources outside Mesnil. It remains one of the best values in artisan Champagne.

Collection 244 is a splendid return to classic Roederer, with a breakdown of 41% Chardonnay, 33% Pinot Noir and 26% Meunier - more Meunier than the last few years when harvests were down. Classically Roederer-esque, the 244 is powerful and vibrant, with classic lemon citrus and baked bread notes, plus added layers of fennel fronds and pink rose petals from the extra Meunier.

James Suckling 97pts - "Very dense black-fruit aromas, but also licorice, an entire microcosm of spice and a whiff of smoked bacon. Very dense and meaty with an incredible tannin structure that enables this to be simultaneously very big and elegant. Super-long finish with enormous mineral freshness. Drink or hold"
