The Margheria vineyard is one of Serralunga's most important and illustrious sites. The Massolino family bought here in the beginning of the 1960s and currently hold 1.5ha. It has chalky soils with a good percentage of sand, which brings elegance and a spicy, mineral complexity to the natural power of Serralunga. This was aged in botti for around 30 months before bottling and then remained in bottle for a further year before release. Nine times out of 10, Margheria is the Serralunga cru that seduces best when young.
"A dense and powerful red with tar, dark berry and spice character such as cloves. Full-bodied, intense and rich. Better than 2010. Try in 2018." 93 points, James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Apr 2015
"A racy Barolo, the 2011 Margheria hits the palate with dark red and black cherries, smoke, tobacco, licorice, new leather and cloves. The rich, boisterous personality of the year comes through in spades in a relatively fleshy, opulent Serralunga Barolo that should drink well with minimal cellaring. Next to the Parafada, the Margheria presents a more horizontal expression of tannin and structure, yet at the same time the fruit is more overt." 93 points, Antonio Galloni, vinousmedia.com
