Established in 1988 this tiny vineyard is planted and is located several kilometres inland from the coast near the entrance to the Apsley Gorge national Park north-west of Bicheno.
Producer Notes - "Our Chardonnay is a very focused wine. It has a complex nose and tight linear structure as seen in a good Chablis, but with the richness and length of a barrel fermented chardonnay. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration."
Clarence House was built in 1830 at Clarence Plains, Mt Rumney, just north of Hobart in Southern Tasmania. The beautiful Georgian house built around 1830 remains and has been maintained in its original splendour surrounded by beautiful gardens, and in 1998 present owner David Kilpatrick began planting vines on an impressive and ideally positioned north east sloping block opposite the house.

The Chardonnay is from a single block planted in 1986. We do two picks: half is the first thing to come off the vines during harvest, and the other component is the last thing we bring in. The fruit is whole bunch-pressed into 100% new oak puncheons. As usual, we inhibited malolactic conversion as a matter of course. 2018 was a little warmer than 2017, yielding wines with a delicious early approachability. - Lou & Joe Holyman
This dornfelder is from a single vineyard in the north west, predominantly whole berry, 5% whole bunch, natural yeast, pressed to and matured in oak. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Intense deep colour. Aromatics of rich blackberries and anise. Dusty mouth-filling tannins, precise acidity.

In exceptional vintages, a few dozen batches of the upmost quality grapes are carefully selected to age for an extra four years in the bottle, creating a wine called the Late Disgorged Brut Cuvée. Tasmania is renowned as Australia’s home of great sparkling wines. The fruit used in this Cuvée is grown on selected, cool climate vineyards across Tasmania.
Honeysuckle and citrus scents are immediately apparent with slight aromas of nougat, roasted nuts and a sniff of strawberry from the Pinot Noir. Delicate fruits and creaminess wash through the mouth leaving a lingering finish of citrus and nougat.
A refined, elegant sparkling wine made from Chardonnay & Pinot Noir, and matured on lees for 3 years before disgorgement and release.
The bubbles are fine, the mouse is creamy and the length is terrific. Honeysuckle, lime butter on toast and the faintest hint of malt all combine to offer a very enjoyable sparkling experience.

2019 BEST NEW WINERY James Halliday Wine Companion
The two pinot blocks were picked individually on March 23rd and April 2nd. The top block was then naturally fermented with 40% whole bunch, the bottom block with 20% in our old milk vats. These were pressed after 20 days on skins to oak, 40% new, and matured while undergoing malolactic fermentation. They were racked and sulphured prior to bottling in late summer. Only 3036 bottles and 72 magnums produced.
Fruit was hand picked over the space of 10 days. Whole bunch pressed at cool temperatures to tank and the juice was cold settled. Racked to old French oak puncheons (500 litres) for fermentation. Maturation on lees for 4 months before bottling. Very open nose with jasmine, orange blossom a touch exotic. Flavours are very concentrated with lime zest, red apple and preserved lemon. Great intensity, drive through the palate with a slinky acid profile. - Winery Notes

The aroma exhibits rich and ripe red fruit, extreme vibrancy of red currants, cranberry, cherry, vanilla and rhubarb with a light fennel note and orange zest lingering. The aroma then extends onto the palate with the added complexity of a toasty char, poached rhubarb, bitter raspberry and violet notes. Combining into a long, soft textural mouth feel. A fine line of silky tannin keeps you going back for more.

Winemaking Notes - "Fruit was sourced from 20-year-old vines on the East Coast of Tasmania. Fruit was destemmed then skin soaked overnight at 5 degrees with no SO2. Fruit was then pressed to tank and cold settled. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks with high solids content at cool temperatures. Post fermentation the wine remained on fine lees for 3 months prior to bottling.
