Bruno Giacosa Nebbiolo d'Alba Casa Vinicola 2021

Giacosa's Nebbiolo d'Alba uses fruit sourced solely from the Roero area, and the wine alongside both the Arneis and Nebbiolo Valmaggiore from here have a long and storied history with Bruno Giacosa. It is no coincidence that 1974 saw the first bottling of both Arneis and Nebbiolo d'Alba from Giacosa, as they were sourced from the same growers. The same is mostly true today, and where the Arneis is grown in the predominantly North-facing slopes of the vineyards in Roero, … more

G.D. Vajra Barolo Albe 2019

"The 2019 Barolo Albe is a nuanced, understated wine, but it is also a rare Albe that needs time in bottle. Sweet floral and spice notes open first, leading to an attractive core of Nebbiolo fruit. Gentle and understated, with lovely precision, the 2019 Albe is a hushed wine that is more about energy than size. I have seen the Albe really blossom with a few years in bottle. I expect that will be the case here as well given … more

Massolino Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba DOCG 2019

Diam. First produced in 1911, the fruit for Massolino's classic cuvée is selected from seven sites across roughly seven hectares of prime-sited Serralunga vineyards. The most important of these sites-Briccolina, Collareto, Broglio and Le Turne-are dotted around the town itself (Le Turne borders Margheria, while Collareto lies next to Vigna Rionda)-so we are talking quality real estate. The 2019 also includes a little declassified fruit from Massolino's Parussi Cru. Vine age varies from 10 to 55 years.

Bricco Giubellini Barolo Monforte 2016

"Bricco Giubellini is easily the most exciting young Barolo producer I have tasted for some time."

Antonio Galloni

Established in 2000 by Maria Bianucci and Gigi Garanzini, Bricco Giubellini is the highest vineyard in Monforte d'Alba at 530 metres and the smallest single vineyard at just 0.33 hectares. The wines, made by our friend Fabio Fantino, have until recently only been available locally - locally, as in the village of Monforte! We liked the wines so much we bought the … more

G.D. Vajra Barolo Coste di Rose 2018

"The 2018 Barolo Coste di Rose is a delicate, understated Barolo that will need a bit of time to fully emerge. There's lovely purity to the fruit here, but also some angular contours that need to resolve. The 2018 is a mid-weight wine in the style of the vintage, and yet there is fine balance. Drink 2023-2038". 92, Anotnio Galloni

G.D. Vajra Barolo Coste di Rose 2019

"The 2019 Barolo Coste di Rose is the most open of the vineyard designates, but is not the easy going Barolo it has often been in the past. Bright acids and veins of supporting tannin gives the 2019 its taut, rather nervous feel. Crushed red berry fruit, mint, spice flowers and earthy tones all develop with a bit of time in the glass. There is a bit of nervousness in the tannin that needs to soften, but all the elements … more

Tenuta Roncaglia has always been recognised as one of the most prestigious and important Barbaresco production areas (also mentioned by Lorenzo Fantini in his book "Monograph on Viticulture and Oenology in the Province of Cuneo"1880). Alessandro Masnaghetti writes in his "Map of Barbaresco Cru, 1994: "...the position of Roncaglie, together with Roncagliette, is one of the best we can see on the side of the hill that begins at Roccalini and rises towards Treiso...". Azienda Agricola Giovanni Sordo Barolo Monvigliero 2013

The star cru of an otherwise workmanlike comune, this is exactly why Monvigliero is so widely appreciated. It has the range of generous Barolo things; cherry and strawberry notes now, probably in youthful mode, but with the usual cherry-skin, raisin and smoky elements just apparent. Overall such an ambassador for Barolo, just this side of generous and more approachable, but with correct shape and grip.

This wine is 100% Nebbiolo, sourced from the Molsino, Valferana, Garavoglie, and Casacce vineyards, and is fermented and macerated in steel at controlled temperatures for 20-30 days, followed by 30 months in large wood. A low-yielding vintage, the 2018 echoes the more traditional Gattinara model we saw in wines of the '70s and '80s, being a more elegant style of … more
