21% ABV. "My favorite of the two Amontillados is the 1951 Amontillado Selección a rare, single-vintage Amontillado produced with Pedro Ximénez grapes as is the norm in Montilla-Moriles. It's a bright mahogany color with an amber-green tint that reveals pharmaceutical notes and balsamic, with roasted, charred aromas and a sweetish palate that retains the sharpness expected in this kind of wine. It is lacking a bit in the mid-palate before ending with a slightly bitter, tarry finish. This is completely … more

The Don P.X. wines come from the youngest vintage wines from Toro Albalá. The carefully selected grapes are hand harvested from the oldest Pedro Ximénez and are then left to dehydrate under the sun for up to two weeks, concentrating the grapes' sugars. The grapes are then lightly pressed and tipped into fermentation vessels. When the perfect balance between sugar, alcohol and acidity has been reached, the fermenting must is 'stunned' with argudiente (clear local brandy). The resulting wine is … more

"Going up the ladder of age, concentration, complexity (and price), the 1968 Don PX Seleccion aged in American oak butts for some 47 years before bottling, and was never blended with any other vintage. The wine has 340 grams of unfermented sugar and higher acidity given its age, as evaporation in barrel concentrates everything. This is somehow less dense and more pungent than the other old sweet wines, with more spices, lots of cinnamon and cocoa powder. It's more fluid, … more

22% ABV. "The 1964 Palo Cortado Marqués de Poley Selección was aged in a solera system of which 50 botas remain. It's a very old fortified wine produced with Pedro Ximénez grapes, aged in well-seasoned American oak barrels. It is full-bodied, which hints at an Oloroso origin, and has the aromas of a very old wine with rusty nail, saltpeter, low tide, phosphor and matchstick notes with a volatile twist. Wines like this are not meant to be consumed by … more

One of the foremost exceptional producers of a wildly undervalued region, is Trimbach from the sloping hills of Alsace. The fruit comes from the Geisberg Grand Cru, a partial component of their legendary cuvée Fréderic Emile. This is a single vineyard cuvée however, coming from old vines on a steep terraced slope.
The latest instalment in Jake Winther's Trutta label sees an exploration into his more textural side, with this minimal intervention Pinot Gris on skins enjoying a fruity and aromatic, yet grippy and tannic mouth feel. Suitable for a summer barbeque or by the fire in winter, this Pinot Gris ticks all the boxes.

A thoughtfully made wine, crafted by Dromana Estate, that represents the character and charm of Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir. Juicy and plush, it shows lovely mixed forest berry characters – think mulberry, blueberry, raspberry – and resinous tannins that carry through to a long, generous finish.

"Featuring the Proprietor's Grandfather, Sidney Neill - Wine Merchant, on the label, Picnic is our perennial favourite - the wine to enjoy every day and a wonderful introduction to the pleasure of Central Otago Pinot Noir. This fruit was sourced from Two Paddock's own estate vineyards in the Alexandra, Gibbston and Bannockburn sub-regions of Central Otago.Picnic Pinot Noir is made in a diminutive style aimed to reflect the characters that Central Otago Pinot does so very well. The Last Chance is a beautifully sited two-hectare terrace perched in bright clear air above the Earnscleugh Valley, carefully planted with well-tended Burgundian clone pinot noir. It nestles amongst a small cluster of the World's most southerly vineyards and takes its name from the watercourse that runs through its heart, hand dug by gold miners in the 1860s, The Last Chance. Soils are raw schist gravels that are low in fertility and require careful nurturing.

"13% whole cluster, Native yeast. Hand harvested. We picked on two separate days. The first pick we destemmed the fruit and fermented in our square cement tank. The second pick was whole cluster fermented in stainless steel. After fermentation, both lots were pressed and matured separately. Always a native fermentation under this roof, this wild animal is only slightly tamed by its elegance and restraint. Fresh pine, oregano, cranberry, concentrated raspberries, violets, chamomile, and black peppercorn. The … more

"The Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of three different clones from different parts of the vineyard. The fruit harvested in the early morning then was 100% destemmed and handsorted. Clone 337 was fermented in oak rotary fermenters, clone 191 was in open-top oak barrels, and the See clone was fermented in an open top stainless-steel tank. The wine spent an average of 30 days on skins before being gently … more
