Rockford Eden Valley Riesling 2017

The Eden Valley sits high in the Barossa ranges, above the floor of the Barossa Valley. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty punctuated by ancient Red Gums with patches of vines hidden amongst undulating grazing land. Exposed reefs of moss covered metamorphic rock hint at what lies beneath the soil’s surface. Vines growing in this shallow rocky soil grow fine flavoured Riesling fruit with a mineral purity that comes from vine roots pushing through cracks in submerged rock in search of water and scarce nutrient.

Fruit for our Eden Valley Riesling is grown in our own Golden Gate Vineyard in the Flaxman Valley and two of our longterm

grower’s vineyards, the Stephens family (Flaxman Valley) and the Angas family (Keyneton).

Most makers of Eden Valley Riesling release their wines in the same year the grapes are picked. Luckily Rockford is not run by accountants, and so we prefer to release ours with a little complexity, palate weight and softness that comes from 10 months maturation on light yeast lees before bottling and a further 12 months resting in bottle before release.
