Caroline Morey, who is the wife and winemaking partner of Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey (director of Domaine Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey) and the daughter of Jean-Marc Morey, has founded her own domaine. Jean-Marc Morey, in the fashion of many older vignerons in Burgundy, has decided to partially retire and in doing so has divided his domaine into three parts. Essentially the elder Morey will keep a small portion of his vineyards, most notably the Bâtard-Montrachet, and has apportioned the rest between his two children Sylvain and Caroline. The way that one might think of it is that essentially one larger domaine has morphed into three smaller enterprises though 2016 will be the last vintage for the wines from Jean-Marc. Moreover, Caroline noted that she had just signed a lease to take over the vineyards of a domaine in Santenay and as of 2017 will now farm fully 7 ha. With respect to the 2015 vintage, she noted that it was an "easy growing season that gave us basically perfect fruit, in fact I have never seen more beautifully colored and formed bunches in my life. The vinifications were straightforward and really there's not much to report as everything proceeded as it should have. I like the wines in both colors as they should be easy to appreciate." - Burghound, Issue 67.
