Crawford River Reserve Riesling 2015

Note: The "Reserve" is NOT just a cellar release of the Estate Riesling, it is a completely different wine only released with age. And, yet it remains insanely youthul at that.

The Reserve Riesling was first produced in 1999, and is crafted from hand selected fruit from a small section of the vineyard planted in 1975. It is not made every year and most of the production is cellared immediately after bottling, for release as an aged wine.

"This wine is made from a small selection of rows that lie along an ironstone ridge amongst our 1975/76 plantings. These vines show a specific flavour profile which is subtle, yet ntensely structured and quite distinctive. The fruit is 100% whole bunch pressed and fermented in stainless steel. Only made in years when quantity is sufficient, and quality is exceptional. When blending, we choose not to make this wine if its omission from our 'Estate' Riesling blend compromises quality.

There is, simultaneously, a youthful and mature element to this wine which is immediately present. A toasted, nutty element, often synonymous with the evolution of our Rieslings is subtle and expected, though the fresh citrus rind is slightly more unanticipated and salivating. The bright citrus, lime in nature, is pervasive, creating a levity to the concentrated fruit profile. Texture and length are paramount throughout the wine, which shows a purity of fruit and persistence we aspire to achieve in a wine of this calibre." - Belinda Thomson, Vigneron & Winemaker.
