Alvaro Palacios L'Ermita 2004

l'Ermita is one of the Icon wines of Spain. From the hills of Priorat, this shows the region style perfectly - rich and powerful but with the structure and underlying minerality to balance it all out. While the ines look great young, they certainly benefit from time in the bottle.

Telmo Rodriguez Las Beatas Tempranillo 2013

"The nose reminded me of wet chalk straight away, a fine and subtle minerality, slowly opening up to aromas of violets and lavender. It had hints of pollen and honey wax, perfumed but in a subtle way. It is perhaps a little more austere and reticent than previous vintages that were warmer and drier. There is a big difference in the acidity that provides for an effervescent texture, with a terse sensation, with tension and a tasty finish with notes … more

Equipo Navazos La Bota de Amontillado (No. 69) Magnum

From Hijos de Rainera Perez Marin.

The historic premises of Calle Misericordia in Sanlacar de Barrameda were thoroughly refurbished just a few years ago. The works did not significantly affect the thousands of casks of the solera and criaderas of manzanilla that are maturing in the two main buildings, but it did change the disposition and the wines of the Sala de Banderas, mainly casks of amontillado in the most delicate Sanlacar style. Besides the dozens of butts that surround … more

Toro Albala Don PX Pedro Ximenez Convento Seleccion 1931 200ml

"If someone told you they kept a wine for 84 years in barrel before bottling, you'd think they are nuts, right? Well, that's what the folks at Toro Albalá in Aguilar de la Frontera - in the province of Cordoba, part of the Montilla Moriles appellation - did with their 1931 Don PX Convento Selección. This is part of what they call 'vinos olvidados,' which means 'forgotten wines.' The border is amber, with green tints that denote very old age. … more

Matallana Ribera Del Duero 2005

From the Ribera arm of the Telmo Rodrigeuz empire, the Matallana is a Reserva style wine, but avoids the pitfalls of some of the more traditional examples. There is a lot of dark fruits, meaty notes and minerality. Great drinking young, but will flesh out with 3-5 years in the bottle.

Pegaso Barrancos de Pizzara Garnacha 2007 Magnum

A 'barranco' is a radical vineyard, and they really are: brown schist, ravine-steep, ultra-high-altitude, no 'soil' to speak of, and quite minerally with lots of quartz. Fruit from old, niggardly centenarian bush-vines, now farmed biodynamically, is now gently handled in large older French oak and concrete eggs. Smells of brick-dust, floral red fruits, pimiento and woodspice. Big never so beautiful - it has space, grace and wisdom exceeding extract and alcohol.

Producer: Telmo Rodriguez
Region: Castilla y Leon
