La Guita is the only sherry produced at the bodegas Hijos de Rainera Pérez Marín in Sanlúcar de Barrameda (part of the Grupo Estévez). The name comes from the old Andalucian slang guita meaning cash (its founder was renowned for wanting to be paid in cash). The more common meaning though is string (hence guitar), highlighted by the fact that every bottle has a string around its neck.
Now owned (since 2007) by Valdespino.

La Ina is one of the most recognizable brands of Fino and used to be owned by the venerable Bodegas Domecq. Unfortunately, in one of the last decade's downturns, Domecq went out of business and Lustau purchased the solera as-is from Domecq. They have continued to make this fino exactly the same as it is a classic of Jerez. A touch of blanched almond, green apple, olive brine and that yeasty mineral finish that makes for a classic pairing with … more

Winery Notes - "Aged for equal periods under flor and in contact with the oxygen, in Bodega Emperatriz Eugenia in Jerez de la Frontera. This dry Amontillado acquires a genuine, rich and nutty flavour through years of ageing. Amber in colour, with hazelnut aromas on the nose. Light, soft and round on the palate, with a long aftertaste. Average age 8 years.

This is a single vineyard sherry which is unusual and has the trademark fine, salty character which Manzanilla is famous for. Drink well chilled.

Steeped in tradition, the Toro DO is a wine-growing region in the heart of Castile and León, in the province of Zamora. The DO is next to Rueda and not far from Ribera and Rioja. It's one of Spain's best-kept secrets. Wines have a long history in this region, dating back to Roman times. This bright red fruited Tempranillo spends a short 3 months in American Oak to softed tannin and build complexity.

This is a project with two family owned producers from northern Spain. Their wines are sourced from one of the finest family producers in Navarra and quite frankly the bang for buck is ridiculous!
A blend of Chardonnay and Viura fermented and aged in Stainless steel tanks, keeping the fruit fresh with a citrus zing.
A rarity - single vineyard Fino. Aged under flor yeast for 8 years to give the crisp tang of salty air - lightish and a touch herbal & floral, with a light, tight & firm finish. Delicious aperitif!

A robust, dark brown and dry sherry with an intense and rich finish. Tightly corked, will last almost indefinitely.

A Mistella, it's pressed must and fortifying spirit, leaving 200g/l of residual sugar. Really great as an aperitif/afternoon drink on ice, or with fruit and nut snacks. And a very good cheese wine, thanks to its excellent round, earthily-ripe acidity.
Fragrant, almost headily so fruity, fresh, floral with some nice wild exuberant earthiness. Smells of oranges, straw, billy tea and raisiny grapiness. Full-bodied, but not too sweet. Moscatel hedonism, and a bargain.

Bodegas Barrero are an undiscovered treat here in Australia. Much used by the Navazos project, this bodega makes some wonderful Sherries, of which this is a terrific starting point.
This is superb value.
Classic flor notes dominate the aromatics, but don't overpower the wine - there are still nuances of fresh bread, almond and saline notes. The palate is quite delicate but wonderfully fresh with excellent racy, salty flor-driven Manzanilla character.

Macabeo - aka. Viura - is a chameleon of a grape. Not unlike how Chardonnay becomes Champagne, Chablis or Bourgogne, Macabeo can be the basis for a spritzy cava, for a rich, full-bodied white or - as is the case here - a dry, crisp and refreshingly nutty white. Pair with Galician style seafood and enjoy supreme refreshment.
Distributor notes "Vibrant red cherry colour, with a medium-high intensity, clean and bright. On the nose, it is fresh and intense, highlighting the aromas of forest fruits that are integrated in a balanced way with oak notes and a spicy touch that adds complexity. On the palate, the wine is tasty, with a soft and pleasant entry that brings freshness. Its passage through the mouth is friendly and balanced, with a long and persistent finish that leaves a nice impression … more

Bottled, April 2024. Fantastic value Manzanilla, and a great introduction to the dry end of Spanish Sherry. Light, flinty, salty, a little herbal (chamomile) with the tang of sea air that defines the manzanilla style. Bottled in screwcap & with the bottling date in English on the back. Delicious & progressive.
