Natural cork. With both this cuvée and the wonderful Rugiens-Hauts, Leroux is back in Pommard with a bang. The 2019 is a blend of Les Vaumuriens (high on the slope) and Les Cras (on the lower slope), both vineyards lying on the Volnay side of the village. Leroux notes the cooler, hillside fruit from Les Vaumuriens brings freshness and balance to the blend. This was crafted from 100% de-stemmed berries and raised with roughly 20% new oak. An attractively fresh nose is comprised by notes of both red and dark currant, earth and a whiff of oak. The medium weight flavors possess reasonably good underlying tension and complexity though the finish, while reasonably persistent, is slightly drying. There are aspects to admire but it would be fair to say that the balance isn't quite completely dialed in. In sum, this is good but … more
"There is a lovely perfumed quality to the very fresh red currant and newly turned earth scents where a trace of the sauvage creeps in. I very much like the texture of the medium-bodied and lightly stony flavors that possess very good mid-palate density where a mild hint of rusticity creeps in on the compact, linear and impressively persistent finish. This is definitely Pommard in character but a relatively refined one.". 90-93, Outstanding. Burghound Issue #73
Produced from 2 parcels representing 1.70 ha of Pinot Noir each located in the "Les Grands Epenots " and "Les Petits Epenots". The vines of the "Grands Epenots" are 28 years old and 55 years old for the "Petits Epenots", they produce an average yield of 45 hl/ha. Following the sorting the grapes are destemmed and a pre-fermentation skin maceration for 3 to 5 days at 8°C will be carried out. Cement vats are used for the fermentations that will … more
The village Lieu Dit of La Croix Blanche sits just south of the 1er Cru of Les Grands Epenots, a small road dividing the two vineyards. Destemmed, cold maceration for 3 to 5 days pre ferment then pigeage 2 to 3 times a day for approx 2 weeks. Pressed off to barrel (of which 30% are new) then aged for 14 to 16 months.

"Once again the nose is dominated by wood and strong reduction. More interesting are the dense, punchy and very serious broad-shouldered flavors that brim with minerality on the grippy and very firmly structured finale. As an aside, it's curious how sometimes the first couple of vintages from young vines can drink like a wine from old vine fruit. Either way, this is very impressive." 91-93, Drink 2032+. Sweet Spot.
