Domaine Jean-Paul, Corrine & Loïc Jamet Condrieu Vernillion 2021

Note: 'Viognier (Planted 1989 in the dip, OK for dry conditions), 2009 on the hillside, dry conditions) from E facing 0.5 ha at 300 metres on Côte Châtillon & from 2018 0.33 ha on Vernon (2014-2015, the Chéry side of Vernon hill, the 1st part is hilly, precocious, 2nd part deeper soils, more abundant, 1 week behind), vinification starts in vat, then from 2016 30-100% 500-litre amphora (rising), 0-70% 2-7 year 228-litre oak cask (falling) fermented, raised 10 months (2015 all oak, 12 months raising), from 2020 100% 500-litre amphora jar handling, malo completed, first wine 2015.' JLL Drinkrhone.com

"Fine yellow robe; the bouquet is jolly, open and wide, gives a classic cooked pear aroma, is vibrant, has the depth of Poire William, along with mango, vanilla. The palate holds firm richness, has structure, good length and energy, life, a flavour of apricot juice. There's a good discreet late surge, and it persists on pear-apricot, a pleasing drift of jasmin above the fruit. This is richer than previous years, I find, as the vines grow up. "By the time we finished the harvest on Châtillon, we had already completed half the Côte-Rôtie harvest, ripening was gradual. It's aromatically very fresh, but 1° less at 13.5° than recently, shows white fruits, flowers as a result," Jean-Paul Jamet." 4/5 stars by John Livingstone-Learmonth, Drinkrhone.com - Bottled Aug 2022. Tasted in Nov 2022

"Very appealing nose - green mango, white peach, pear. Ripe palate with a streak of salty acidity. A floral note on the palate - honeysuckle - and perfumed, with excellent density and a long finish. Really balanced. Such a mineral, long and salty finish that refreshes the mouth. A lovely side of Condrieu." 18 points by Alistair Cooper MW for JancisRobinson.com, tasted on 7 Oct 2022.
