Guillaume Guiton, after studies in Beaune and an apprenticeship in several wineries in Burgundy and as far away as as Rosemount in Australia, is now in charge of the domaine founded 35 years ago by his father Jean. Since he took over in 2005 (and we discovered him with the lovely 2009 vintage) he has hugely increased quality here, earning rave notices from Jancis Robinson and La Revue du Vin de France among others. The family’s 11 hectares of vines, … more

The 2018 Hermitage Blanc was still in its various components, so my rating and description is something of a composite, based on barrel-tasting lots from Péléat, Les Rocoules and L'Ermite. There's incredible weight, ripeness and richness throughout, with hints of toast and crocuses accenting white peach, melon and pineapple fruit, yet also a sense of vibrance and briny freshness on the lengthy finishes. 95-97" - JC, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Distributor notes "From vines bordering on to Puligny AC vineyards. Shows wonderful perfume and depth for this level. Aged 3/4 in barrel (none new) and 1/4 in stainless steel. This wine shows great aromas and very clear fruit expression and offers a lot of pleasure from an early age. Aged for eleven months in the barrel followed by a further seven in stainless-steel tanks. Ageing in barrels that have seen between one and five wines. This is an outstanding value … more

The Clos de Vougeot cultivated by Laurent Roumier is admirably placed in the famous grand cru terroir. More structured and tannic than Chambolle, Clos Vougeot owes its strength to its deeper and richer soils. Laurent Roumier’s vines from this cuvée are situated on the upper part of the Clos, on just over half a hectare. A longer ageing of 18 months in new barrels for half, improves the character of this well-balanced wine.

Like the rest of the 2015 Lignier-Michelot lineup, the Clos de la Roche combines beautiful soaring aromatics with beautiful pure fruit, and a savory sense of earthiness. The nose is explosively perfumed with beguiling aromas of ripe black cherry, red plum, violets, exotic spices, and roasted game. Supple palate shows impressive concentration, with dark fruit flavors, and layers of minerality on a long, driving finish. This has a all the elements to age effortlessly and should reward 10-15 years in … more

Louis Boillot Vieilles Vignes Moulin a Vent is made from the grapes of vines that are 50-60 year old vines. The fruit is an blend of four parcels from sites close together. On the nose it has impressive weight and structure more in the style of a red Burgundy. The palate is dense, pure and palate coating with nuances of raspberries and red cherries. It has great volume and tannic structure, as is often the case with Moulin-a-Vent.

"There is a lovely perfumed quality to the very fresh red currant and newly turned earth scents where a trace of the sauvage creeps in. I very much like the texture of the medium-bodied and lightly stony flavors that possess very good mid-palate density where a mild hint of rusticity creeps in on the compact, linear and impressively persistent finish. This is definitely Pommard in character but a relatively refined one.". 90-93, Outstanding. Burghound Issue #73

"Now that grandpère is 95 years old it is Louis who does this vineyard work here. Rich mid purple. The nose is clearly riper than Champonnets. It is really beautiful though, the age of the vines (planted 1912) has held it all together and there is an excellent natural acidity behind the complex sweet cherry fruit. Very long perfumed finish, adorable. Long silky finish." (93-95) Jasper Morris

Burghound 'Louis Boillot's views are consistent with those of his wife Ghislaine Barthod.... I would add only that Boillot noted that he began the harvest on the 2nd of September in Volnay. As the scores and commentaries confirm, Boillot did fabulously well in 2015, indeed I would go so far as to say that they are among the best wines that I have ever seen from him. Moreover Beaujolais lovers should not ignore those wines either as all three are … more

'A surprisingly high-toned nose freely displays notes of cranberry, red raspberry, earth and a hint of anise character. There is excellent volume and richness to the bigger and more powerful flavors that are less refined but equally persistent on the youthfully austere and dusty but not rustic finale. This very firm effort is also clearly constituted for the long haul.' 91-93pts Burghound.
