Cavallotto Barolo Bricco Boschis 2013

Cavallotto release their Barolo wines with extra age when they consider they need to and this is why we are now offering the 2013 - after many other producers have already released their 2014 wines. The Bricco Boschis cru produces the estate's emblematic Barolo and is crafted mostly from two parcels within this single vineyard. The Punta Marcello lies on the top of the slope, by the cantina. This cool terroir is known for its fragrant, pale juice and long, angular tannins. The Vigna Colle Sud-Ovest parcel of the Bricco Boschis lies at a lower elevation and, facing due south, is the warmest microclimate in this vineyard. The wines from these vines are more accessible when young, with darker, fruit-rich juice and softer tannins. The renowned Vigna San Giuseppe vines also contribute to the blend. Together these three components form a complete picture of the cru, at once complementing each other and building aromatic and structural complexity into the final blend. Although there is a Vigna San Giuseppe Riserva that comes from this site (we will release the 2012 in due course), it would be a mistake to think of this wine as an entry-level Barolo, it is so much more than that! Bricco Boschis is a truly profound vineyard and the vines for this cuvée average around 50 years of age! The wine spends about 30 days on skins before being aged in Slavonian oak casks of various sizes (all large, between 1,000-10,000 litres) for three years. The extra year in bottle has really been important here as this is powerful, super classic Barolo. Expect a deep and powerful wine with ripe plum, rose and autumnal aromas and flavours, lots of fruit, plenty of firm and classic tannins and a lovely floral close. Certainly, it is a wine for aging so if you intend to drink it now give it a good decant and serve with richer, meat based dishes. A very, very smart Barolo for lovers of classic Barolo. The 2013 Barolo Bricco Boschis is terrific.
