Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Lirac 2019

The Usseglio estate has long produced good wines, but it was the ascension of Pierre Usseglio's two sons, along with the purchase of 20 hectares of old vines in the 1990's, that really put these wines on the map. The 2016 Lirac checks in as 70% Grenache and the rest Mourvèdre, Syrah, and a smattering of other permitted varieties. The wine itself is sturdy, solidly built and loaded with blackberries, cola nut, garrigue, liquorice and baked earth character. Its savoury and plummy, with velvety smooth tannins and a full bodied finish.
