Paul Osicka Moormbool Shiraz 2019

Not made every year and in miniscule quantities it is a statement of style and place as much as

quality. The wine selected is a parcel that came off the back of the 1950's plantings. We refer to it as

the Red Quartz section, due to the shallow soil depth and red veined (iron stained) quartz in the soil.

The wine was hand picked, sorted and desteemed into small 1 Tonne open top pots via gravity, no

pumping. Left on skins for over 4 weeks and after pressing, the wine was filled to a 2100 litre second

fill French Oak Vat. Where it was racked once prior to bottling. Half of the wine was blended into the

2019 Paul Osicka Shiraz, to ensure we maintained that wine's character. The other half was bottled

separately.

Intense pure and evocative nose of red and blue fruits. Some spice and higher Campari like herbal

notes of depth and interest. Very medium bodied. There is a succulence and delicacy to the fruit

initially on the palate despite its intensity and yet somehow also manages to be inky. Water colours

rather than bold lines initially, the bold lines come later. Waves of pepper/spice and dark chocolate

build until the long focus of tannin. Fresh earth and truffle notes linger in the flavour profile.

A wine that is much easier to drink than describe. Seductive.
