Pertimalli Rosso di Montalcino 2018

This is/was simply one of my wines of last year, and as elegant and exciting as Sangiovese can get. Eric Guido of Galloni Vinous says "Wow". That's about right. - Importer, David Ridge

All the grapes are harvested as Brunello, with Rosso and Riserva being selected out after the wine has finished fermentation/maceration (10-15 days) - Rosso to steel then 6 months in bottle. Like 18's from elsewhere in Italy, this is cool and elegant, able to show clear, classy cherry fruit and notes of rose, smokiness and coffee grounds over a zingy Rosso frame. A dream economy Sangiovese.

Cherry, strawberry, rose oil, liquorice and coffee beans. Medium-bodied, gentle earthy with again, that coffee-bean character, balanced acidity, and a sweep of fine sooty tannin, hazelnuts too, and more nut-skin tannin playing out on a nice long finish. Expressive fruit and an earthiness that's so appealing. Top shelf RdM here, and a lovely thing to drink. 94 points Gary Walsh, Wine Front

Crushed cherry, dusty rose, saddle leather, earthy minerals and shavings of cedar, all come together to form a classic and utterly gorgeous bouquet on the 2018 Pertimali Rosso. Soft textures are then motivated by a stunning mix of acids and minerals with savory red fruits and spice, buzzing, practically sizzling on the senses. There's so much energy here. The finish is long and lightly structured, showing tremendous potential, resonating on earth notes and dried fruits with a subtle tug of youthful tannin. Wow. 92 points Eric Guido, Galloni Vinous
