Equipo Navazos La Bota 80 de Manzanilla Pasada "Bota Punta" 500ml

Saca of August 2015 | D.O. Manzanilla Sanlúcar de Barrameda | 16.5% alc | Calle Misericordia, Origin: Hijos de Rainera Pérez Marín, Sanlúcar de Barrameda

Continuing the (legendary) tradition that started with La Bota No. 20 and has run through 40, 50 and 60, this wondrous, intricate Manzanilla Pasada is drawn from the extraordinary, single cask "Bota Punta", located at the end of La Guita's "Capataz Rivas" solera at Sanlúcar's Calle Misericordia. Since that first bottling (the first ever from this solera) each La Bota release ending in zero is now drawn from this special butt. The Bota Punta shows a distinctive, less oxidative character than the rest of the solera (in spite of the fact that-topped up exclusively from the solera's other 14 butts-it actually has a higher average age). It's the Crown Jewel of Navazos' various Manzanilla bottlings and this stunning example easily lives up to the soaring expectations set up by its remarkable predecessors. The real age of this wine is around 15 years. It is stunningly versatile on the dinner table, where it is best served around 12º C, in moderately large stemware. This is a very special wine that takes the astonishing quality of the previous releases of this wine to an amazing level of finesse and chalky minerality. As the note below makes clear, this is not to be missed.

"The new bottling many of us wait for every ten editions is now here in the shape of the NV La Bota de Manzanilla Pasada 80 Bota Punta. It's bottled at 16.5% alcohol at an estimated average age of 15 years, the first ten years under flor and the subsequent five with the barrels fully topped up, following an oxidative (normal) aging. This is always a stratospheric wine, taken from the same few barrels-in this case the last one, the "bota punta"-and the character is similar with only small nuances. It was previously offered, from the very same cask, with the editions 20, 40, 50 and 60. This is still quite shy on the nose, but the palate is an explosion of concentration, flavors and minerality. It's still quite biological, with the effect of the oxidation very subtle. The empty glass had amazing aromas of dried leaves, petrol, esparto and cheese rind. This should develop nicely in bottle. The benchmark Bota 30 from June 2011 is still going strong. Only 950 half-liter bottles produced." 97 points, Luis Gutiérrez, The Wine Advocate #234
