In 2017, the warm, dry growing season gave the Barbaresco an extra kick of richness that fills out its frame and adds so much immediacy. Given that 2016 is considered one the best vintages of modern Barbaresco, … more

Poderi Colla Barbaresco Roncaglie 2019
Tenuta Roncaglia has always been recognised as one of the most prestigious and important Barbaresco production areas (also mentioned by Lorenzo Fantini in his book "Monograph on Viticulture and Oenology in the Province of Cuneo"1880). Alessandro Masnaghetti writes in his "Map of Barbaresco Cru, 1994: "...the position of Roncaglie, together with Roncagliette, is one of the best we can see on the side of the hill that begins at Roccalini and rises towards Treiso...". And Daniel Thomases, in the Wine … more

Poderi Cellario Duzàt Dolcetto 2022
One of the best value Dolcetto we've see in some time. It harks back to the juicier, more fragrant Dolcetto we grew up on, as opposed to the increasing array of more structured Nebbiolo-esque versions on the market today. Purple and plush in glass, with soft cocoa powder tannins and a lingering sweetness reminiscent of fresh mulberries.

Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Colonnello 2016
The Poderi Aldo Conterno 2016 Barolo Bussia Colonnello shows dark fruit intensity, dried cherry, spice, licorice and tilled earth. The wine delivers its aromas in a direct and immediate manner, with menthol and balsam herb fitting into oaky aromas of sweet spice. For whatever reason, I notice the oak more in Colonnello, but this will relax with time. The wine will be ready to drink after the 10-year mark.

Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Cicala 2016
The Poderi Aldo Conterno 2016 Barolo Bussia Cicala offers a ripe fruit profile with layers of menthol and medicinal herb. The finish is beautiful, long and chalky, and you don't get as much alcohol in the Cicala (compared to Romirasco). The fruit is dried and streamlined, and this wine does show good
promise for aging. The tannins are beautiful, coating your teeth and palate with no bitter edge.

Massolino Langhe Nebbiolo DOCG 2020 375ml
"This wine just gets better and better. Early vintages of the Nebbiolo were sourced exclusively from Massolino's younger vines in Serralunga-a declassified Barolo if you like. Today there are two more parcels in play: Monforte's Cascina I Maschi vineyard lies at altitude right on the border of the Barolo area, where the soils are rich in chalk (Massolino credits this cool site with the resultant vibrant perfume and ripe acidity); then there's a parcel in Alba on lighter, sandy clay … more

Massolino Barolo Vigna Rionda Riserva Etichetta Nera 2016
Vigna Rionda is historically the most revered vineyard of Serralunga, the source of some of the greatest, most structured, robust and long-lived Barolo. The name derives from the word rotonda (round) used to describe the amphitheatre shape of this south-facing vineyard. The Massolino family are the largest holder with 2.3 hectares (today Angelo Gaja has a fair chunk as well). The soil here is similar to the Parafada vineyard (limey/chalky marls) yet there is more chalk and also a higher … more

The Massolino family are the largest holders in this Cru with 3.5 hectares of Vigna Rionda vines, aged between 40 and 50 years old. On some of the oldest soils of Barolo, there is very little topsoil here, with a high concentration of limestone, oxidised iron and other mineral elements.
