Cantina Moscone Nebbiolo d'Alba DOC 2020

Producer Notes - "Since 1877 Moscone family has been cultivating soils with unique characteristics to obtain healthy grapes of superior quality. Scrupulous care of the vines using only products that respect the biodynamics in ou r vineyards, long experience and respect of the traditions, are our secrets to achieve elegant wines of exquisite finesse."

The nose leads with vibrant red berries with hints of dried rose and violet petals. On the palate it is medium-bodied, well structured with soft persistent … more

Cavallotto Barbera d'Alba Vigna del Cuculo 2020

Cavallotto's Vigna del Cuculo is a major league Barbera from a parcel of 50-plus-year-old vines on the western side of Bricco Boschis. This parcel is named after the cuckoo bird (cuculo)-we're not sure why and neither is Alfio Cavallotto!

The unique power and ridiculous quality of this wine can be attributed to the mature vines, low yields, and powerful terroir of the Bricco Boschis. The western aspect and the preponderance of limestone in the soil here temper Barbera's natural acidity, … more

Cavallotto Barolo Bricco Boschis 2018 Magnum

The Bricco Boschis Cru is a truly profound vineyard; an amphitheatre-shaped site that produces this estate's most emblematic Barolo. This comes from vines with an average age of 50 years, mostly situated in two parcels within this single vineyard. The first is the Punta Marcello, which lies at the top of the slope next to the cantina. This cool terroir is known for its fragrant, pale juice and long, angular tannins. Then, there is the Vigna Colle Sudovest parcel, lying … more

Cavallotto Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe 2016 Magnum

The fruit for this flagship Riserva derives from the small sub-terroir of the Bricco Boschis known as Vigna San Giuseppe. A steep slope that sits behind the cantina, this 2.38-hectare parcel has long been considered the sweet spot for this vineyard, consistently delivering one of the greatest Barolos of the region.

Here you get the best of everything: altitude (but not too much); excellent drainage (but enough water retention thanks to the limestone and clay, ensuring the vines don't stress … more

Cavallotto Langhe Nebbiolo 2018

A true baby-Barolo... This comes from declassified, mostly young vine fruit from the great Castiglione Falletto Crus of Bricco Boschis, Codana and Pernanno, so it is a wine that could legitimately be labelled as Barolo.

Cropped at a yield of around 38 hl/ha, the grapes were fully de-stemmed and fermentation occurred with indigenous yeasts. Malolactic fermentation was in cement tanks during the spring following harvest and the wine was then aged for 18 months in Slavonian oak botti. It was … more

Chiara Boschis Barbera d'Alba 2021

From Monforte (Mosconi and Ravera) and Serralunga (Gabutti), and aged in old barriques for 16 months, this is elegant and taut with classic Barbera acidity and bite. A 'bishop's robe purple' with loads of black cherry and plum fruit, chocolate and spice, this benefits from some time in the cellar.

Chiara Boschis E. Pira Barolo Cannubi 2017 Magnum

'The Barolo Cannubi is absolutely gorgeous in 2017. Hot and brutally dry conditions notwithstanding, the Cannubi is creamy and sensual in the glass, with impeccable balance, soft, racy edges and tons of allure. It is easily one of the most sensual, compelling Barolos of the year. Ripe dark red/purplish fruit, spice, mint and cedar meld into the beautifully textured, resonant finish. I am so impressed with the wine's freshness. Perhaps the anti-hail netting helped keep some shade on the fruit. … more

Chiara Boschis E. Pira Barolo Mosconi 2017

The 2017 Barolo Mosconi is a powerful, brooding wine. Black cherry, gravel, dried herbs, scorched earth, spice and leather add to an impression of gravitas. This is an especially somber, potent Barolo that needs time to soften. Even so, it will always be a brute. The substantial finish is a thing of beauty. The Barolo Mosconi emerges from the estates oldest vines, which are 70-80 years old, and is aged in barrique. 95 points, Antonio Galloni

Ellena Giuseppe Langhe Nascetta 2019

A once popular grape in the Langhe, Nascetta was abandoned at the end of the 19th century, with Piedmontese growers focusing on the red varieties that define the region. However, the past decade has seen a small resurgence for this semi-aromatic grape, which under the right conditions can be indulgently scented and well suited for medium term ageing. The Ellena Nascetta is a classic, hailing from a 0.5 hectare plot (there is approximately 10 hectares of Nascetta in the world) … more

G.D. Vajra Barolo Albe 2019

"The 2019 Barolo Albe is a nuanced, understated wine, but it is also a rare Albe that needs time in bottle. Sweet floral and spice notes open first, leading to an attractive core of Nebbiolo fruit. Gentle and understated, with lovely precision, the 2019 Albe is a hushed wine that is more about energy than size. I have seen the Albe really blossom with a few years in bottle. I expect that will be the case here as well given … more

G.D. Vajra Barolo Bricco delle Viole 2018

"The 2018 Barolo Bricco delle Viole is finely cut and chiseled, as it so often is. Dried flowers, mint, crushed rocks, pine and red berry fruit all grace this taut, sculpted Barolo. The 2018 has all of the energy of this site, but its signatures are decidedly dialed down. Drink 2026-2043." 93, Antonio Galloni, vinous.com

G.D. Vajra Barolo Coste di Rose 2018

"The 2018 Barolo Coste di Rose is a delicate, understated Barolo that will need a bit of time to fully emerge. There's lovely purity to the fruit here, but also some angular contours that need to resolve. The 2018 is a mid-weight wine in the style of the vintage, and yet there is fine balance. Drink 2023-2038". 92, Anotnio Galloni
