Another aspect of our business is providing the wine-lover with unique wine opportunities such as in-store tastings where you can often meet the winemaker. We also conduct dinners where the emphasis is on matching food and wine (and having fun) in a relaxed atmosphere, again with the winemaker present. We also conduct a Spanish Sherry tasting Fiesta at least once a year. In addition, we run special Master Classes for specific vineyards, producers, regions or sherries.
Tastings
On a regular basis, Rathdowne Cellars conducts free Wine Tastings, usually on a Saturday afternoon, but also on week-day evenings, depending on the availability of wine-makers, who we prefer attending to showcase their own wines.
These are conducted informally, are free (unless marked otherwise) and there absolutely is no obligation to purchase the wines tasted.
Riedeltober (née October)
Spanish National Day :: Sun 12th Riedeltober, 3pm-5pm
As lovers of all things Spanish, we can't let an occasion like Spanish National Day go by without arranging something to drink (the same could be said of many other days). To go with the changing weather, we thought we'd focus our tasting on some of the more Summery drinks that Spain has to offer. Expect Manzanilla Sherry, Cava, Albariño, Joven Tempranillo and more.
Dominique Portet Tasting :: Sat 18th Riedeltober, 3pm-5pm
Sauvignon Blanc and oysters, it's on again! To celebrate the release of Dominique Portet's new wines, we will be holding our traditional tasting. Come along and try these great wines from the Yarra Valley made by a Bordeaux-trained winemaker and eat some fresh oysters. What better way to spend a Saturday arvo?

Rathdowne Cellars & Gerald's - Northeast Italian Whites :: Sat 11th October, 2pm-4pm @ Gerald's Bar, 386 Rathdowne St | $20 per person
Meet us at our favourite local to taste a lineup of Italian white wines! We love going to Gerald's for a drink and Northeast Italy produces some fantastic white wines, so we thought we would combine the two in this great tasting. We will showcase five producers, all of whom have a Pinot Grigio, along with a handful of interesting things like Traminer Aromatico, Tocai Friulano and Ribolla Gialla. Some food will be available and helping out behind the bar will be the guru of Italian wine, Michael Trembath. Come along anytime between 2 and 4, but bookings are essential.
