Events

Another aspect of our business is providing the wine-lover with unique wine opportunities such as in-store tastings where you can often meet the winemaker. We also conduct dinners where the emphasis is on matching food and wine (and having fun) in a relaxed atmosphere, again with the winemaker present. We also conduct a Spanish Sherry tasting Fiesta at least once a year. In addition, we run special Master Classes for specific vineyards, producers, regions or sherries.

Tastings

On a regular basis, Rathdowne Cellars conducts free Wine Tastings, usually on a Saturday afternoon, but also on week-day evenings, depending on the availability of wine-makers, who we prefer attending to showcase their own wines.

These are conducted informally, are free (unless marked otherwise) and there absolutely is no obligation to purchase the wines tasted.

February

Jamsheed Tasting :: Sat 13th, 12pm-2pm
Winemaker Gary Mills will be in to show his range of wines. The lineup this year includes a horizontal camparison of Shiraz from the 08 vintage: two from the Yarra Valley, one from Great Western, all three single vineyard. This will also be the last day to purchase tickets for the Jamsheed raffle, details of which can be found here.

Our first dinner of the year is going to be fantastic. We are lucky enough to be hosting Ernst Loosen (former Decanter Man of the Year) from Dr Loosen and JL Wolf, Fritz Hasselbach from Gunderloch and Helmutt Donnhoff from Donnhoff at Culter & Co - The Age Good Food Guide's winner of two hats, Best New Restaurant and Chef of the Year.
There will be four brackets: Grauburgunder (aka Pinot Gris), Estate Rieslings, Grand Cru Rieslings, Auslese Rieslings. Each bracket will be matched with a dish specially chosen by the team at Cutler (with our help, of course).
This will be a chance to taste some amazing wines and meet some legends of the industry.
